Dnp students enroll in 9991 capstone every term until they are complete. Tuition for this is $50 per credit for research fees --- so 9991 is $300.

Doctoral students are to be enrolled in regular classes (not on leave) in the term they graduate.

My capstone project is an environmental survey of 25 long-term care (LTC) service providers, pre-selected by VPAS, the regional Area Agency on Aging in the Central Shenandoah Valley; to determine the providers interest in adopting the No Wrong Door-Peer Place electronic community service record and using the Virginia Universal Assessment Instrument as a tool for strengthening the coordination, delivery, evaluation and planning of the region's LTC service infrastructure.

Third cohort of DNP students join faculty for Reception at the Rotunda

14 new DNP students joined faculty at a Rotunda reception on Tuesday August 18.
Emma Mitchell, new DNSO president welcomed the students and invited them to join with the PhD doctoral students in social and other activities related to doctoral education.
The Dean welcomed the students and the Program Director introduced faculty teaching and advising in the program.

Dear Nursing Deans and Directors:

I am writing on behalf of the newly-created American Board of Comprehensive
Care. In order to distinguish DNP graduates who have achieved a high level
of competence in comprehensive care, the Council for the Advancement of
Comprehensive Care (CACC) and the National Board of Medical Examiners
(NBME) have agreed to offer a certification examination that will validate
the advanced clinical competency of these graduates. CACC, founded in 2000,
has established the American Board of Comprehensive Care (ABCC) as its
certifying body.

Advanced practice nurses with national certification in an advanced
practice nursing specialty, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree, are
eligible to sit for certification. The exam is derived from the test pool
of the USMLE Step 3 exam for MD licensure candidates. Successful DNP
candidates will be designated as Diplomats in Comprehensive Care by the
American Board of Comprehensive Care.

The first exam will be offered on November 10, 2008. The application
deadline is June 16th, 2008. For further details, please see the ABCC

29 DNP students attend Orientation on the Lawn

Twenty nine DNP students joined twelve faculty and the Dean for the first Orientation and DNP convocation on the Lawn. In addition to welcome and greetings from the Dean, the students met with advisors and learned about their programs of study, which will include courses around the concepts of Ethics, Managing Information Technology, Health Promotion, Health Services Research and Culture and Health. The students may choose at least 3 cognate courses to focus their capstone project and participate in clinical practicum hours to achieve advanced practice immersion experiences.
